BE WARNED! DO NOT RENT ON 17TH FLOOR! Egregious landlord. Negligence in Maintenance and Repairs: During my tenancy, I encountered multiple maintenance issues that were not addressed in a timely or satisfactory manner. Despite reporting these issues, the landlord either delayed necessary repairs or chose cost-cutting measures that compromised the living conditions in the unit. Notably, the lock on the bedroom door to the balcony was non-functional upon my move-in and was not adequately repaired despite repeated requests.
Pre-Existing Conditions Ignored: Landlord has attempted to hold me responsible for pre-existing conditions in the apartment, such as rust on the cabinet handles and painting costs. These issues were present before my tenancy began, and despite my efforts to maintain the apartment in good condition, he has unfairly sought to deduct these costs from my security deposit.
Inadequate Response to Air Quality Issues: There were significant air quality issues in the unit, likely stemming from uncleaned air ducts and a lack of proper sealing due to the unrepaired balcony door. Despite changing air filters regularly and reporting these issues, the landlord failed to address them, leading to an unhealthy living environment.
Unfair Security Deposit Deductions: The landlord has made excessive and unjustified deductions from my security deposit, including charges for deep cleaning and locksmith services that were either unwarranted or inflated. I paid for a professional cleaning service upon move-out, yet the landlord still seeks to charge an additional $300 for deep cleaning, which is unreasonable given the pre-existing conditions.
Lack of Communication and Cooperation: Throughout my tenancy and the subsequent resolution process, the landlord has demonstrated a lack of effective communication and cooperation. His delayed responses and unwillingness to engage in a fair discussion have caused significant emotional distress.
In addition tried to use real estate/ leasing agent as their property manager.
DOCUMENT EVERYTHING VIA EMAIL AND PHOTOS AND PUT EVERYTHING IN WRITING. I was fortunate and kept all my documentation but someone could easily be taken advantage of.
STORAGE UNIT IS 1/2 FULL W LANDLORDS PERSONAL ITEMS. WILL BE HELD LIABLE FOR COFFEE TABLE AND SIDE TABLE THAT WERE LEFT BY LANDLORD.
I loved the building itself for the season of life I was in. Walleta was outstanding. Security is great and helpful! Rent on another floor but avoid 17! To my knowledge, that is the only rental unit this landlord has in the building so other landlords shouldn't be punished for the egregiousness of this landlord. Great neighbors, friendly people, lots of dog people- great beach access - clean building with reasonable rules.
