The ownership only care about money. Imagine a 55+ community that has no door openers on ANY exterior door - except an internal door to the pool area. The building is NOT accessible for people in wheelchairs or other mobility issues. It’s mind blowing - especially considering the ridiculously high HOA fees charged by The Palms. The staff are kind and hard working people and the facility is opulent but it is not compliant with ADA laws because they claim that as a private entity they don’t have to.
My mother has been in the facility since it opened and when she recently bought a scooter to get around she quickly realized that was a 100% waste of money because she couldn’t get in or out of the building.
When correspondence was sent to The Palms management - mom was told they were not going to do anything, BUT they would accommodate my mother and allow door openers to be installed IF my mother would pay for them - how ridiculous is that for a building that caters to seniors - by definition the bulk of the seniors will have to deal with mobility issues.
My opinion: if you cater to Seniors like The Palms does - the facility should be accessible to seniors who need help and make those investments - it’s the right thing to do!
