DO NOT LIVE HERE! I lived here for 3 yea ...
DO NOT LIVE HERE! I lived here for 3 years and it was a nightmare. I lived in unit 3C which was infested with mold and cockroaches due to a shower water leak that was neglected for months.
I complained of my unit feeling damp and smelling musky from the moment I moved in. I was assured nothing was wrong and there were no signs of mold and was told hiring a mold expert would be at my own expense. I found mold growing on my furniture, my leather goods, clothing, wool suit jackets...I was told I didn’t keep my AC set low enough, mind you, I kept it at 74. I threw away thousands of dollars worth of furniture and clothing.
I decided to spend hundreds of dollars on a huge dehumidifier that would measure the humidity in my apartment...it measured in at 75%+ on a daily basis and pull nearly 10-12 gallons of water out of the 750sq ft apartment daily. CRAZY!
Over the time I lived there, I stated to develop unexplained skin rashes, constant fatigue, chronic coughing and respiratory issues. I knew there had to be more of an issue.
Fast forward to my last few months of living this nightmare...I discovered a water leak in June that went unfixed until October. Once the walls were opened up to repair the water leak, the backside of the drywall on several walls was completely covered in mold. I took samples of this mold and my own expense and sent it to a laboratory for testing. Sure enough it came back positive for 3 different types of toxic mold and black mold. I notified the property manager and they said they would repair it. I asked several times for a licensed mold remediation specialist to be hired to address the issue...instead they had the complex handymen try to remove the mold and repair the leaky shower. They half-a$$ed the repairs and it took 4 attempts to fix the shower. Every time they said it was fixed, my unit would flood when I took a shower.
While this work was being done, I noticed mold growing on every wall in the bedroom. This mold was actually growing on the painted side of the drywall. We had an agreement that all moldy drywall was to be removed. Instead, they bleached it and painted over it. At this point I realize this apartment is literally poisioning me and is a hazard to my health and the landlord, Alan, has no interest in fixing or caring about. Alan never spoke one word to me nor could I gain his contact information (let alone his name) from the property manager and had his “lawyer”, Bryan, reach out to me and send me hundreds of emails back and forth trying to get the mold and leak Issue fixed. Alan’s “lawyer” is his son. RentHollywood is family owned and tries to bully and threaten their tenants with “fake” mold addendums in their lease contacts....who puts a mold addendum in a lease contract...that should have been my first warning sign. Sure, the price is cheap if you want to risk your health. It is the cheapest building in downtown Hollywood to live in...don’t be fooled by the price tag. You have to have to pay for water and use coin operated laundry (which is always broken). Spend a few extra hundred dollars a month and go live in the lap Of luxury in the newer apartments in downtown Hollywood compared to this place. Oh yea, when you end your lease, there is a $100 fee that gets pulled from your security deposit upon move out for “administrative fees” lol.
As I moved out, I noticed the mold was already growing again on the bedroom walls...it took just 2.5 weeks for the mold to start growing again.
