Lived here from 2016-2018. I will give an honest and as close to unbiased review of this place as I can. It’s not a bad place to live, when I was there at least. Here are a few things that make it not a bad place to live. I thought It was very well sound proofed. I never heard my neighbors like I do in my current high rise apartment. Plantation Colony is an older apartment complex and I believe they built the older building much better (as far as sound proofing) than the newer ones. It was pretty quiet when I lived there.
It’s within walking distance of Publix
They have a dog wash station, but it’s outdoors. Still better than using your tub.
I gotta hand it to them on the landscaping. It’s not flawless but it is appealing to the eye and much more well kept than other apartment complexes i’ve stayed.
The apartments felt spacious. They are a little dated, but I felt like I had more living room, dining room, bedroom to play around with. It’s also nice to not feel stacked on top of multiple people like you do in a high rise.
There was a sense of privacy being able to walk my dog within the complex versus the sometimes overwhelming foot traffic of people who can’t control their dogs that you might encounter in a high rise apartment building.
They had an ok pool area(s) the more decent one being by the leasing office. Again this place is dated but it felt quaint.
Sadly, this is where I have to turn to the negatives and I will try to be as objective as possible.
1) Their a/c units are filled with mold. This is fact. They are old and need to be replaced immediately! Black mold is a serious health hazard, and they make you sign a mold addendum at lease signing. Unacceptable! They will give you a document that says something about them not being aware of mold in the unit or something like that. If you have the backbone and time then at the time of signing I would request them to test the apartment for mold. If they say they can’t or already have then ask to see the results or how then can they know there is or isn’t the presence of mold if the can’t test. There are two reasons why they won’t. (1) they either know and won’t admit it for legal and liability reasons or (2)………..
2) Their washer and dryer units are old and need to be replaced. For as much as they’re charging now, it shouldn’t be an issue to do this.
3)There is no gate access. Anyone can come in the complex.
4) People speed, or at least they did when I lived there and there are no speed bumps in the complex. I brought it up to leasing and was told, well…what do you think I was told?!
5)Amenities are lacking to put it nicely. The gym is the size of one of their 1br living rooms and the equipment is old. No you don’t need new equipment to break a sweat, but what they have and don’t have is unacceptable for what you pay to live there. They did replace a tennis court with an outdoor “work out area” But still That money could have gone to replacing moldy a/c units or speed bumps. Sorry objective only.
6)valet trash service was spotty. Sometimes they came, sometimes they didn’t.
I’m giving it 2 stars primarily because of the moldy a/c unit. I got extremely sick and don’t realize that I had been breathing in mold. Got it professionally tested and confirmed. Extremely dangerous. You might be wondering why i’m writing this review so many years later. Well every now and thenI like to check the prices of places I used to live. I saw what they were asking for with a 1br and couldn’t believe it. It. I payed 1470-1480 when I lived there. Yes I know inflation and all that good stuff, but to me it was unjust. I mean any where now is unjust but to have the same prices listed as a new apartment building in say Miami is insane to me.
Hopefully this review stays up because it is the truth and we deserve the truth in a world filled with people who are constantly seeking to deceive us.
Happy Hunting!
